Dubai Islands

As one of the prominent under construction projects in Dubai, Dubai Islands is poised to redefine urban coastal living and enhance the emirate's appeal as a premier global destination.

It was formerly known as Deira Islands. Encompassing 15.3 square kilometers, the project aims to introduce over 80 hotels and resorts, adding 40 kilometers of coastline and 21 kilometers of pristine beaches to Dubai's landscape. Recent advancements include the launch of Edgewater Residences by MGS Development, featuring three elegant 12-story towers with semi-fitted apartments and a host of amenities. Some major projects here are as follows; Bay Grove Residences (Nakheel), Bay Villas (Nakheel), Sunset Bay, Beach Walk (Imtiaz Developments), Ocean Bay (Samana Developers), Arya Residences, Ellington Cove (Ellington Properties).

 

The World Islands

The World Islands, an ambitious archipelago of 300 man-made islands off the coast of Dubai, is experiencing a resurgence in development after years of dormancy.

Recent initiatives, such as the opening of the Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort, have injected new life into the area, attracting both tourists and investors. Despite these advancements, the complete realization of The World Islands is projected to take at least another decade, as developers navigate logistical challenges and substantial costs associated with construction.

This ongoing development underscores Dubai's commitment to innovative and expansive urban planning, positioning The World Islands as a significant component of Dubai new construction endeavors.

Palm Jebel Ali Island

Construction paused on the project for more than 15 years following a break in 2008, which has left the island lying dormant for the better part of two decades.

But, last year, it was announced that property developer Nakheel was coming back to the table to breathe new life into the white elephant. While the foundations have been laid, several practical infrastructure developments still need to be completed. The man-made island is twice the size of Palm Jumeirah, but there are no completed projects on it.

However, in 2023, plans were revitalised by Nakheel to bring hotels and resorts, beach clubs and even a ‘celebration village’ to the islands.

Ongoing Transportation Projects in Dubai

Dubai Metro Blue Line

The Dubai Metro Blue Line is an upcoming addition to Dubai's rapid transit network, designed to enhance connectivity across key urban areas. Spanning 30 kilometers, the line will feature 14 stations, with 15.5 kilometers of underground tracks and 14.5 kilometers elevated. It will link significant neighborhoods, including 

Interchange stations are planned at Creek (Green Line), Centrepoint (Red Line), and International City 1, facilitating seamless transfers within the metro system.

It is one of the top Dubai upcoming projects with the aim to alleviate road congestion by 20% in critical areas and is projected to serve approximately 200,000 passengers daily upon its expected operational date of September 9, 2029.

This strategic development is anticipated to boost property values near stations by up to 25% and provide efficient travel times ranging from 10 to 25 minutes across various neighborhoods. 

Etihad Rail

As part of Dubai's future projects, the Etihad Rail network is expanding beyond its completed sections to further integrate key urban and industrial areas across the UAE. 

With future phases under development, this national railway is set to transform transportation efficiency, reduce congestion, and support economic growth.

Stage Three: Dubai – Fujairah – Ras Al Khaimah

  • The next major expansion involves a 279-kilometer railway connecting Dubai to the northern emirates of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

  • This phase will enhance connectivity between industrial hubs, ports, and logistics centers, reducing reliance on road transport for cargo and passengers.

  • While the official completion timeline is yet to be announced, this phase is expected to be a crucial part of the UAE’s long-term rail strategy.

High-Speed Rail: Abu Dhabi – Dubai

  • One of the most anticipated Dubai projects, this 150-kilometer high-speed railway will link Abu Dhabi and Dubai in just 30 minutes, with trains reaching speeds of 350 km/h.

  • Planned stations include Reem Island, Yas Island, Saadiyat Island, Zayed International Airport, and Al Maktoum International Airport, offering seamless intercity travel.

  • Construction is expected to begin soon, with an operational launch targeted for 2030.

Flying Taxis

As part of Dubai upcoming projects, the city is gearing up to launch flying taxis, marking a revolutionary shift in urban transportation. This futuristic mode of travel is designed to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and offer a sustainable alternative to traditional road transport. 

With Dubai’s commitment to pioneering smart mobility solutions, flying taxis are set to become a key milestone in Dubai projects aimed at redefining city transportation.

  • In February 2024, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) signed an agreement with Joby Aviation, a California-based eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) manufacturer, to introduce air taxis in Dubai.

  • The initial launch phase is set for 2025, with full commercial operations expected by 2026.

  • The project is also backed by Archer Aviation and Skyports Infrastructure, ensuring that Dubai becomes one of the first cities in the world to deploy an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) network.
